Hold on to your seats as Teresa Tudury takes you on a musical journey of wild and powerful songs and stories from the depths of her incredibly rich and inspiring repertoire. Teresa Tudury is an absolute original. From her San Francisco roots to the Greek Islands to New York and LA, she wakes up the music scene. Teresa creates a loyal following and rave reviews wherever she performs. Our world is richer with such a rare talent in our midst.

Teresa Tudury started writing songs at age 12 and was performing in San Francisco nightclubs by the time she was 15. She has played on and off in the Bay Area for years, and for almost two decades was based in Los Angeles where in addition to music gigs, she wrote comedy and worked as a character actress on stage and screen.

With a deep, sultry voice that magnetizes audiences, and a scathing comedic wit to match, Teresa is a consummate performer who pours out her original songs with power, verve, passion, and disarming humor. Teresa’s voice has been described as a cross between Bette Midler and Bonnie Raitt (LA Weekly). Her vocal stylings are perfectly complemented by her bluesy guitar playing.

Throughout her career, Teresa has recorded or performed with such greats as Leonard Cohen, Rickie Lee Jones, Lyle Lovett, Taj Mahal, Leo Kottke, Charlie Musselwhite and Bonnie Bramlett. Now residing in Sonoma County, Teresa continues to perform and write new material. She has just released Such Fine Things, her latest CD. Her earlier recordings (1992 Teresa Tudury, and the 2002 River Of Life). were recently rereleased. With these recordings and a steady stream of concert appearances, Teresa is a gifted artist in her prime.

“Part chanteuse, part comedian, part bona fide pop artist…and a voice that could stop a war.” — Buzz Weekly

“Picture a cross between Bette Midler and Bonnie Raitt musically, and toss in the most side-splitting stage patter imaginable, and you have Ms. Tudury.” — Johnny Angel, LA Weekly

“I think ‘Cheering Your Little Ass On’ is the greatest song ever written.”– Charles Perry, Rolling Stone and LA Times

“Leonard Cohen meets Bessie Smith ” — Fan overheard at a “Teresa” concert

Don’s Big Music Event

image3Don Young died suddenly on June 15, 2016 after a brief but critical illness.

His passing leaves a void in the music realm, but his good words and music will live on. His wife and business partner, Hilary Young, will be keeping the shop open, as that would be Don’s wish. Right now Don’s String Shop will be open on Saturdays only from 12:00 to 6:00.  There will be an experienced repair person available to evaluate repairs and take in new work to continue to accommodate our local and out of town musicians. Eventually we will be open on weekdays.

Don always liked a good shindig. On July 31, 2016, Don’s Big Music Event is occurring at the Red Barn in Los Osos from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Lots of great music! Potluck food and BBQ. BYOB. Come and go as you wish, but do prepare to have a GOOD TIME!

Please join us in honoring and celebrating the life of Donald Young. This will be an evening filled with performances by local musicians and hopefully an impromptu jam (so bring your instruments.) Come share your best stories and memories of Don. We have friends manning the BBQ pit, so bring meat to grill and/or a potluck side to share. Attire is casual (you know Don would be in jeans and his engineer’s cap). Let us celebrate Don in a way he would approve…. through good food, great music, and lots of love between friends and family.

You can call the shop at 805-439-4017 with any questions, and Hilary will respond as quick as she can.

Box of Vintage Ukes Coming Soon!

burlA big old mystery box of vintage ukuleles will be arriving at Don’s String Shop next week.

What’s in the the box? Not one. Not two or three. But four ukuleles! All vintage, and all with a story to tell.

AND a very interesting round mandolin. Ever seen a Beltone? We’ve never ever seen anything like it.

These gems will be available for show and tell before you know it. Stay tuned!
